Stretch your wings – Amazing fun!

June 28th, 2014 by katielloyd

Amazing fun last week.

The “Painting with Light” event at Damian McGillicuddy’s studio was so much fun and finding out what the fantastic Olympus EM1 can do was mind boggling.

Here’s a couple of shots of Jade the gorgeous model who posed beautifully while we painted the light around her.
Angel’s wings were perhaps more successful than my idea of a huge fire growing round her feet!
Can you see yourself in this pose?!

“What a great camera you must have!”

June 11th, 2014 by katielloyd

“What a great camera you must have!”
This is something people sometimes say to a photographer when they see great pictures. Isn’t it a weird thing to say though…
if you met a surgeon who got good results would you say “what a great scalpel you must have!” or to an author “what a great pen you must have”

yesterday on Brooklands Radio’s Just Women programme we discussed the fact that everyone takes pictures all the time and explaining the difference a professional can make isn’t always easy. So now I’m going to undermine that completely.

It really isn’t about the equipment beyond a certain point. I used to take very average pictures with my good cameras before I was trained as professional, whereas now I am more critical of my pictures than most people and I think they are often quite good (and modest with it!) at least the people pictures.

One area I am usually useless at is landscape, but on a recent walk in Yorkshire there was a landscape image that grabbed my attention. I don’t carry my big heavy cameras when I go walking as it is just a nuisance to other people, so I thought I’d just see what the iPhone could do.

Imagine my amazement when it turned out a fairly interesting, sharp focus image that I’m not ashamed to show you.

This is a natural fresh water lake, one of only 2 in the Yorkshire Dales.

It has quite a mysterious feel to it and the water level rises and falls markedly.

As you can see the structure slightly left of centre ought to be recognisable as a sort of pier or landing stage and it should be on the beach.

Well what an amazing camera iPhone must have!!!!!

A chance to talk!

June 10th, 2014 by katielloyd

Today was a really enjoyable day as I was invited to go on Brooklands Radio to talk about my photography. I had 15 minutes chat with the two presenters of the programme “Just Women”, Jackie Mitchell and Alison Florence and a chance to meet two other participants, Victoria Jones from Barlow Robbins solicitors and Holly Worton a social media marketing expert who is starting up the Surrey group for Winning Women.
I was invited to talk about photographing newborn babies like this one. Isn’t she a perfect cherub!

Millie (115)w

A key point in our discussion was the need to be sure when selecting a newborn photographer that they are suitably qualified and expert. The organisation formerly called British association of Newborn Photographers (BANP) is now called BANPAS, Baby and Newborn Photography Association. If you are seeking a newborn photographer their website will point you towards someone in your area who can be trusted with your new baby. Go to the website www.banpas.co.uk to check them out

Look for this sign on your photographers website to check if they are a member

I’m keen to replace my antique weighing scales as shown in this picture.
I heard this was in use by a vegetable stall, but sadly it didn’t survive too many well developed babies!
If anyone can help me find a replacement I’d be grateful to hear where and how.
Please email me on clients@katelloydphotography.com or call me on 07812 341517

Baby smiles

May 16th, 2014 by katielloyd

Tradition says that when a newborn baby is smiling it is due to wind!
Do you think that’s true?
I think they are dreaming, but what can they be dreaming about? Milk and Mummy is my thinking as they have no other experience at this early age.

Sweet babies

April 23rd, 2014 by katielloyd

I’ve recently been photographing newborn babies and it is such a fantastic pleasure
Here are some examples
They vary from large to average and then to absolutely tiny – only 3lbs 10 oz at 4 weeks old!
I absolutely love doing this and I get lots of baby cuddles

This position requires teamwork – don’t try it at home!

This is the tiniest baby I’ve ever photographed. She was less than 4 lbs but had loads of personality and determination!

We’re off to see the Wizard

March 14th, 2014 by katielloyd

So the Aspire photography themed shoot last week was based on The Wizard of Oz. A huge amount of work had been done by the team and a set of excellent models arranged for us to shoot.

I’m not sure that I remember the story all that well, but the models were so helpful some lovely images resulted

When I was little

March 12th, 2014 by katielloyd

When I was little I desperately wanted curly hair.

Have a look at this little cherub, isn’t it amazing!
WizofOz-125

Even more amazing is that there are two of them!

I cam across these little lovelies in Cumbria where they were taking part in a themed shoot for Aspire photography. They were acting the lions in the story of the Wizard of Oz – more on that later!
